Teaching Poetry Response and Analysis – textual approaches

A specific approach to teaching poetry, using as examples three texts from the IGCSE English Literature set texts list. Note : this is not an introductory level programme and assumes some experience or that participants have previously taken the UCBC programme “Introduction to Teaching Literature”.

  • Definition, Overview, the Approach
  • Three texts (all from the 2016 – 2017 IGCSE English Literature text list) :
    • “One Flesh” – Elizabeth Jennings
    • “Follower” – Seamus Heaney
    • “I wish I could remember that first day” – Christina Rossetti or “”Shall I compare thee …” – William Shakespeare

Audience     Teachers of G9 – 12 (1º – 4ºM) Literature, A-Level Literature, IB Language A Literature or IGCSE English Literature. While aimed at English teachers, the skills and contents are transferable to Spanish classes. Teachers of G6 – 8 may also find this useful.

Students of A-Level Literature, IB Language A Literature or IGCSE English Literature may find this beneficial.
