TKT Young Learners

After you have succesfully completed the Teaching Knowledge Test (“TKT”) Core Modules, you may wish to add the Young Learners (“TKT-YL”) module.

What is TKT – Young Learners?


TKT-YL concerns the knowledge of the strategies and skills required to teach young learners, ideal if you are an international teacher working in primary education. This programme prepares candidates for the Cambridge English Examinations (“CEE”) TKT-YL examination. For the purposes of the TKT, “Young Learners” refers to students aged 6 – 12. What does TKT: Young Learners address?


TKT-YL addresses the background knowledge related to teaching young learners of between 6–12 years of age. It also considers understanding of planning lessons, different teaching strategies and assessing learning.



This module has one examination of 1 hour 20 minutes with 80 questions divided into four parts :

  • learning and development
  • planning lessons
  • teaching strategies
  • classroom-based assessment

Enrolment and Pre-requisites


TKT-YL programes are available as 24-hour programmes (three 8-hour intensive, six half-day semi-intensive or 12 two-hour sessional formats, and through Open or Closed modalities. To enrol in a TKT-YL programme with Británico, you need at least a CEFR-B2* level of English, and to have completed the TKT Core Modules,
